Almost no one uses the word "awakening" correctly – the four-stage model of awakening

Awakened

This word is being cheapened on social media, in the sports world, in the spiritual world, and in the self-help world. People realize something, feel like they've woken up, and see the world differently. They call that "awakening" just like that.

However, awakening has stages, and most people stop at the first stage.

What is "Awakening"—What Existing Definitions Miss

Biologically speaking, waking is "awakening from sleep." It's a state where brain waves switch to alpha and beta waves, and consciousness is actively functioning.

In Buddhism, "liberation from ignorance." The disappearance of self-centered perception and the understanding of the interdependence of all beings.

These definitions are correct, but they each only capture one aspect of "awakening."

The Four Stages Model of Awakening

There is one structural model. There are four stages of awakening.

Stage 1: Germination

Detachment from unconsciousness. Noticing something is wrong. Dormant senses begin to tremble. This is what many people mean when they say they have "awakened."

Phase Two: Blooming

Latent talents and sensitivities begin to emerge. Your true self starts to materialize. Others begin to say, "That person has changed."

Third Stage: Super Bloom

To transcend one's own talent and definition. Not a flower blooming, but something that is not a flower being born. An entirely new form of existence, not an extension of what has been before.

Stage Four: Transcendence

The boundary between "self" and "the whole" melts away. Existence vibrates as a part of the universe. It's no longer an awakening as an individual, but a state where existence itself has awakened.

Those who talk about the fourth stage while remaining at the first stage

Someone stuck in the first stage is talking about the fourth stage.

That's why the word "awakening" is so cheap.

Awareness is merely the beginning of awakening. True awakening lies at the end of a long path beyond what you have become aware of.

What stage am I at now?

Accurately recognizing where you are right now is the only gateway to the next stage.
