People are made up of things that they have built up through risking their lives. They carefully protect and nurture them, rise from failure, and continue to oscillate between regret and hope, compromising within the limits of what is acceptable, while still loving themselves and living in harmony with those around them.
By achieving results in a specific area I have set for myself, I build trust and this in turn leads to the next job. The assets I have built through experience gradually manifest themselves in the form of things I can protect myself from.
And as the size of the thing being protected increases, it becomes a burden. The moment one recognizes the thing to be protected, the relative value increases, and the desire to “not lose it” becomes stronger. As a result, thinking about moving forward becomes perceived as a risk, and the priority of maintaining the current position increases unconsciously.
Accumulation is an asset; don't be fooled by it
The more easy a place is, the more people stop.
A familiar environment is naturally comfortable. I know how to do things. No matter what happens, I can usually handle it.
Therefore, there is no need to innovate there. Since the thinking costs are minimized and the system is stable, new behaviors and ideas are not required. Humans are inherently creatures that have evolved by changing their environment and struggling to find solutions. That cycle stops.
The real place where people break down is not the painful place, but the easy place.
Even though it is stable, it still doesn’t seem to satisfy me. This feeling is the ultimate warning sign that something is not right.
What remains no matter how much it is destroyed is the true value.
Once broken, everything is lost. Many people are so afraid that they are bound in mind and body. While stepping into a new environment or stage, the title or position may disappear, but the strength gained through the process of building up to that point cannot be destroyed. The ability to build trust with people, the ability to overcome difficulties, the ability to persevere to the end, and the ability to gain insight.
Rather, when you lose your form, you realize the true value of that experience and skill. Was it the title that protected you, or was it your own strength? Being exposed to the outside world firsthand brings about a renewed recognition of value.
── Breaking something is different from throwing it away
It’s not about throwing away everything. It’s not about recommending reckless bets.
Take a moment to question the parts of the defense that are intended to be guarded. Is it really worth guarding, or is it just a matter of being afraid of losing?
Just by asking that question again, you’ll often discover things that you might have otherwise overlooked.
To start with, I want to start by meta-cognizing what is stopping me by guarding first.
