Blueprint for Relationships That Invite Evolution: The Perspective of Viewing People Through Four Quadrants—"Normal vs. Abnormal" and "Present vs. Future"

Blueprint for Relationships That Invite Evolution: The Perspective of Viewing People Through Four Quadrants—"Normal vs. Abnormal" and "Present vs. Future"

The saying that who you meet shapes your life is a cliché. Yet almost no one can explain this “who you meet” through structure. Friends, colleagues, family, acquaintances—most people categorize human relationships by "affiliation." But through that lens, you cannot see where your thinking solidifies and where it breaks down.

Here, human relationships are reframed as information. Both human ideas and actions are nothing more than outputs that follow inputs. The vast majority of those inputs consist of people. Therefore, designing who you meet is equivalent to designing your very own thoughts.

Two axes──Normal or abnormal, now or future

There are countless axes by which people can be categorized. The presence or absence of financial power, the breadth of one's network, social status—each is merely one way of cutting it. The axes adopted here are two.

One is the axis of whether the feelings and stimuli that person brings are normal (easy to accept) or abnormal (feeling out of place). The other is the time axis of whether that person is tied to the "present" self or the "future" self. By multiplying these two axes, four quadrants emerge: the Implementer, the Stimulator, the Future Person, and the Destroyer.

achiever──get things done×Normalperson

An achiever is someone who steadily moves their current thoughts and projects forward. They excel at a grounded way of living and possess a high ability to execute things. They are the pillar of an organization and the presence that supports daily order. However, if you continue to stay only within a circle of achievers, your field of vision will quietly but surely narrow.

stimulator──Increase entropy×Abnormalityperson

A stimulator is someone who brings new information and common sense from outside of one's own values. The key here is the yardstick known as "entropy."

Entropy is a concept that indicates the degree of scatter in things. If left alone, a room becomes cluttered—this is a state of increasing entropy, and the universe as a whole has also continued to disperse in accordance with this law since the Big Bang. However, human thinking often moves in the opposite direction. As people get older, the boundaries of "I am good at this and bad at this" solidify, and entropy decreases. The reason young people can try anything is because their mental entropy is still in a high state.

A stimulator is an entity that intentionally scatters information against this quiet contraction. It brings in ideas that cannot be calculated by its own functions and opens the closing frame once again.

Destroyer──Destroy the premise itself,future×Abnormalityperson

The destroyer goes even deeper than the stimulator. Rather than simply delivering new information, they shatter the very premises of the vision of the future they advocate. They are an entity that reaches directly into foundations you never even thought to doubt, such as "1+1=2."

The moment the future is destroyed, the outline of one's current self begins to waver as well. Someone who was merely running a company by default might, upon encountering a destroyer, swing toward aiming for an IPO, or they might quit business altogether and become a researcher. If the premises change, even the lineup of future people we should aim to become is completely swapped out.

person from the future──As an ideal, future×Normalperson

People from the future are the ideal image one sets as a goal. Like a Major League Baseball player to a boy, they function as an unwavering ideal. However, a person from the future is merely an ideal that exists as an extension of our current premises. The role of the destroyer is to shake things up by asking, "Isn't that ideal fundamentally wrong in the first place?"

TargetComing down”──The technology of not immobilizing

What tends to be overlooked in this four-quadrant framework is the structure in which the subject itself moves as time passes. People from the future descend to become realizers as the current self approaches them. When a premise destroyed by a destroyer is reconstructed within oneself, that destroyer is no longer a destroyer, but merely transforms into a stimulator.

When someone who aimed to be a Major Leaguer actually becomes one, the next futuristic person might be a manager or a team owner. The important thing is not to fix relationships by thinking, "This person is like this." Without waiting for the future, we intentionally move future people forward into achievers and destroyers into catalysts. That is the shortcut to speeding up the cycle of thought.

Accepting the disease of wanting to grow

A way of living that seeks to make the future better, to make the world better, can in a sense be considered a disease to those who do not think that way. For humans afflicted with this disease, there is no end. But that is fine. The moment one becomes calm, this disease quietly comes to an end.

If you look back at your relationships right now and realize that you only meet achievers, it is not a danger signal, but merely a sign that the outline of the person you should meet next has become clear.

The pinnacle known as the integrator

A person who embodies all quadrants—a being who can be a person of the future, an achiever, a stimulator, and a destroyer—is called an integrator here. It is not a place that anyone can easily reach. However, it is a place worth aiming for.

Review this week's schedule using the four quadrants

The first thing to do is simple. Look at your upcoming schedule and categorize the people you are meeting into four quadrants. You will likely notice a bias toward a specific quadrant. Once you spot an empty quadrant, you just need to go find someone who fits into it. That alone will begin to change the quality of your information for the coming week.
