How to Develop a Child's Talents: There Is No Single Correct Way of Parenting. All Parents Can Provide Is a "Place."

Don't be fooled by the "right way to raise children"

How to develop a child's talents. Many parents are looking for the right method. However, having observed numerous business leaders and successful people, there seems to be no common thread, yet somehow there is.

Some people were raised strictly and kept under control, while others grew up with complete freedom. Some grew up with freedom, only to be left not knowing what to do and ending up playing it safe. Some were constantly told, "You're a genius, do whatever you like," and ended up falling into self-loathing as a result. Some were told "You're no good" so many times that they were crushed, while others used that same defiance to achieve success.

A person who grew because they were blessed with an excellent environment. A person who likes socializing and grew through their network. A person who dislikes people and succeeded in order to live a life where they don't have to meet anyone. There are as many patterns of success as there are people. In other words, it's simply a matter of functions; no single equation can solve it for everyone.

What remains with children is not words, but the "atmosphere."

So, does that mean parents don't need to do anything? That is not the case. What habits can they help their children build? In a sense, that can also be said to be leaving something behind.

One of them for me is meditation. Since my family has a Buddhist background, I had a lot of time to look inward through morning and evening Buddhist services, Zen, and meditation. Another is books. My parents were always reading and studying at home. Seeing that, I became a child who borrowed the maximum limit of books from the library, read them, returned them, and borrowed more. And yet another is the classical music and jazz that played in the house. I am certain that laid the foundation for my current musical taste.

Talent is activated by the environment. If that's the case, the first environment for a child is the home. It's not about what you preach to them, but what kind of external environment you provide for them. What you make normal for them.

A child's talent is determined by the number of options the parents provideBe decided

For example, suppose a child stops going to school because of bullying. Forcing them to go with all their might is one option. Letting them stay home is another. But for instance, whether or not one can take the option of "let's try moving somewhere else" is determined by the parents' financial resources and ability to take action—in other words, the parents' capacity.

From the city to the country. From a cold region to a warm one. Or even abroad. The breadth of these choices sometimes changes whether a child lives or dies. That is both the fault of the parents and something within their power to do.

── The label "incompetent child" rejects their entire personality.

Whether to push oneself to go to a top-tier high school and live as an underachiever for three years, or to live as an academic standout at a second-tier school. Of course, it is not a simple issue, as a top-tier school offers unique encounters with exceptional talent, a foundation for future networking, and different options for further education, but the impact that things like self-esteem have on one's life is quite significant.

The environment protects an unwavering heart.

There is no magic way to nurture a child's talent. Whether strict or free, children who grow will grow, and children who shut down will shut down.

That is precisely why the question we should ask is not "how to raise them," but rather, "as parents, how many suitable environments can we provide where our children's talents can be unleashed?"—and to that end, how much parents can expand their own choices. It is about how far we can create an environment where children can take on challenges and experience failure. Expanding that capacity is likely the most important thing parents can do first.
