As words to describe a person's charm or attitude, there are expressions such as "that person has a high degree of purity" or "they are impure."
However, in this case, this expression mixes two meanings. To give an easy-to-understand example, someone who wants to master baseball itself has a high purity toward the sport of baseball. On the other hand, someone who uses baseball to make money can be said to have a high purity toward their financial goals.
Purity of direction is straight-line focus toward a purpose.
We can call this kind of purity regarding money "strategic purity." How straight-line focused is it toward the objective?
In this sense, "baseball for money" also has a high degree of purity, so to speak. If the purpose is money and the means are chosen toward that end without hesitation, its vector is straight.
In other words, strategic purity does not question the content of the objective. The only thing it questions is the consistency toward it.
── The purity of consciousness questions the integrity of existence.
Another is existential purity. This looks at whether existence itself is aligned with the essential self.
In this sense, the type for whom "baseball itself is the joy" is of a higher purity. This is because it is not positioned as a means to an end, and the action and the existence are one.
These two are established independently.
There are states of high strategic purity and low existential purity. This is when you are moving in a straight line toward a goal, but that goal does not align with your true nature. The more you run, the more you may feel like you are getting further away.
Conversely, there are also states where the purity of existence is high and the strategic purity is low. What you are doing is a joy in itself, but your purpose is undefined and your energy is scattered.
Both look like a "person of high purity" or an "enthusiastic person" from the outside. However, the place where they are stuck is different.
── Which one to fix first depends on the symptoms.
If you are moving forward and yet feel unfulfilled, the issue lies on the side of existential purity. It is time to question the goal itself.
If you are fulfilled yet not progressing, you lean toward strategic purity. There is a high likelihood that some change in your approach is necessary.
If you skip this diagnosis and move on to "trying harder," both scenarios will make things worse. The former takes you further from your goal, while the latter increases fragmentation. Which purity are you facing right now?
In any case, if you keep increasing only the strategic purity, the problem of existential purity will inevitably arise. It is fine for the former to come first in the sequence.
