The Difference Between Perspective and Viewpoint: What People Who "Want to Change Themselves" Should Truly Change

The concept of "viewpoint" that fundamentally changes how you see things

"Viewpoint" and "Perspective" — the crucial difference between these similar yet distinct terms

The world you see is shaped by where you stand.

The way you see people is seemingly simple yet complex, seemingly free yet full of limitations.

Even walking through the same city, the view is completely different for a tourist, a long-time resident, and someone there for a business meeting. The height of buildings, the allure of flowers on a street corner, the smell of the morning – everything arises from each person's unique perspective.

A viewpoint is about where and from where you are looking. A perspective (or standpoint) is about the origin of the observer who is looking at the world. What to see and where to see it from, while it seems like you are choosing, you are actually not choosing much at all. Without realizing it, one's viewpoint becomes fixed within great limitations.

Digging a well will not reach the sky.

Accumulating knowledge and changing one's perspective are entirely different exercises.

Normally, people deepen their thoughts within their own perspective. They read books, have discussions, and increase their knowledge. In reality, all of these are built upon the same single perspective.

No matter how deep you dig, the bottom of the well is the bottom of the well, and it will never reach the vastness of the sky. Digging and going outside are different movements.

Changing your perspective means stepping down for a moment.

There is no true freedom except beyond that fear.

Changing your perspective isn't about changing your thoughts. It's about stepping down from the very spot you're standing on. Step out into complete darkness, plant your feet on different ground, and simply accept the view from there.

It's much scarier than you think. It's because things you've believed in until now look different from another angle. Somewhere, you know you might change yourself.

But true freedom lies only beyond that fear.

To an unending journey of expanding perspectives

The world is much bigger than you think, and you yourself are still very vast.

Outside of perspective, a perspective.

When you put it that way, the place where you're standing right now becomes just a little bit relative. Just being able to think that there's a horizon yet unseen makes it easier for a person to breathe.

Learning to fight fear like that is a key point when facing the expansion of your perspective. How to deal with the fear that continuously attacks and that you must overcome. Beyond that, you can continuously meet a new version of yourself.

The world is always much bigger than you think.

And I, too, am still broad.

Embark on an endless journey of expanding your perspective.
